The Victoria Falls were named after Queen Victoria by the first European to see them in 1855, David Livingstone. Today, the falls are referred to by that name, as well as by that which was given to them by the Kololo tribe that lived in the area at a similar time "Mosi-oa-Tunya" this translates as "the Smoke that Thunders".
