Dinosaur World Florida

Can you dig it? Yes you can, at Dinosaur World in Florida! Kids go wild over the treasures they unearth during The Fossil Dig, especially since they can choose three of their favorites to take home. The 15-minute guided activity takes place in a specially stocked pit area that includes everything from sharks teeth and gastropods to stingray barbs and Mosasaur teeth.

Other engaging activities the little ones love include uncovering a 27-foot skeleton replica from the Boneyard, touring Exploration Cave with a Paleontologist to discover different types of dinosaurs, panning for authentic gems and minerals at the Dino Gem Mine, and the interactive Triviasaurus Rex Game Show. There is also a large playground for kids ages 5-12 and an area for even younger ones.

Though termed a theme park, Dinosaur World is nothing like Disney. It is rather a self-guided outdoor museum in a refreshingly natural setting. More than 150 life-sized dinosaur sculptures line the winding boardwalk, each with a descriptive plaque. Lush foliage and tall trees provide shade from the sun as well as a beautiful backdrop.

Indoors, the Prehistoric Museum is where animatronics bring to life the Tyrannosaurus Rex, Brachiosaurus, Stegosaurus, and Pterodactyl in a motion-activated display. The small Florida Fossil Museum features fossils native to Florida and corresponding informational panels.

Thorny DinosaurDinosaur World gets consistently high marks for educating and delighting kids of all ages, having immaculate grounds, and also an attentive, friendly staff.

If you go:

  • There are no food concessions, only vending machines with soft drinks. Bring snacks and/or feel free to picnic in the park. Shady areas, mists, fans and water features make it comfortable outside even on warmer days.
  • Dinosaur World is dog-friendly and has water spouts around the park. Pets must be friendly, well-behaved, and on a leash.
  • The park is located just off of I-4 in Plant City. You can’t miss it – just look for the giant dinosaur at the exit.
